The Town of Hempstead operates water wells in six Town controlled water districts in south west Nassau County servicing in excess 125,000 residents. Beginning 2013 with the implementation of contaminant monitoring, a number of compounds were discovered in the groundwater. These compounds are 1.4 dioxane, trichloropropane, chromium and other chemicals.
