Project Description

Sampson Community College (SCC), in Clinton is the only post-secondary institution in the county with an annual enrollment of over 2,165 in curriculum programs and 2,918 in Workforce Development & Continuing Education (WD&CE) programs. \nSCC does not have a multi-purpose, flexible space for large-scale training in occupational and public safety programs or adequate facilities for hosting meetings or lectures of more than eighty people. Basic Law Enforcement and Emergency \nMedical Services have no dedicated training space, and occupational training is limited by space. SCC is unable to hold SCC community interest meetings, program graduations, large seminar or lecture offerings, or state, regional or system \nconferences on campus. SCC will launch an Entrepreneurial program this fall, and elements of that training could be taught in the addition. The college expects all programs to benefit from the additional training space. \nSampson Early College High School, which operates on the SCC campus has no space for indoor physical education or intramural sports. The project would afford these students greater access to wellness programming. \nThe project will provide laboratory space for the Entrepreneurial program that is expected to to launch in fall 2022. The project will add a total 222 new jobs over five years. The college has a bid-ready for an addition to the existing Activity Center that will add 10,000 sf of flexible, multi-purpose space for public safety and occupational training, physical education and wellness programming, and college and community meetings. The space would allow the college to host systemwide and state conferences and events.
