CU requests funding to modernize laboratories and provide mission assurance for JILA, the university\u2019s joint research institute with NIST. JILA requires modern facilities to advance quantum research and workforce training in Colorado. Over the past year, numerous incidents have threatened JILA research due to a serious backlog of deferred maintenance. These include power outages and fluctuations, loss of stable temperature control and even flooding. Future infrastructure failures are imminent and would have catastrophic consequences including facility shutdowns causing the loss of years of research and training and have a chilling impact on Colorado\u2019s developing quantum economy. CU requests $12 million in one-time funding to advance JILA modernization and address the institute\u2019s most critical infrastructure needs, which include (in priority order) $10 million to upgrade JILA\u2019s aged electrical system and $2 million for preliminary work to replace the institute\u2019s antiquated HVAC system.\r\n
