Project Description

District 3 of Newton County is your largest district in the community with the most youth and seniors. This area is the only portion of the county that does not have community projects or a location to host these events for the citizens who reside in this district. The residents have to utilize the neighboring county's facilities because the community programs located within the county are too far. This has been an issue in the densest area of Newton. In 2017, $495K was allocated to build a Westside Youth Facility through the 2017 SPLOST and the funds have not been utilized because this is not an adequate amount of funding to build a community center that will house the youth in the area with overcrowded schools. In March of 2022, $3.7 million was allocated to the project from the excess fund of the 2017 SPLOST. To build a community center that will house the projects needed for this area, we need additional funding so that we can include the technology and programs for our youth in this century.\n \nThe importance of the building is that it will provide programming to our youth on the east side of Georgia. The westside of Newton County does not have an accessible center or the technology for today's youth. The nearest Library is too far for parents to take their children. The community consists of over 60% minorities with a school system that is overcrowded with a teacher shortage. Our school system is D-rated and as the Commissioner of the area, it is my job to provide an outlet to make sure our youth are successful by providing the tools they needed\n1. An active technology slash/ Media Center active\n2. Various projects that coincide with STEAM (Science, Technology English, Art, and Math)\n3. Sports and recreation\n4. An auditorium/black-box theater for these youth who are playwriters\n5. A commercial kitchen that would not only teach culinary skills but assist those in need.
