Louisiana Children's Medical Center
The goal of the construction is to increase the current footprint of the UMC cancer center to provide patients with care and access to clinical trials within their community and in the state of Louisiana. This project leverages the 50-million-dollar investment by LCMC Health, in partnership with LSU, to develop the first NCI-designated Cancer Center in the state of Louisiana. The achievement of the NCI designation would open the opportunities for the citizens of the State of Louisiana to have easier access to clinical trials and cutting-edge cancer treatments that they must now travel to cancer centers in Texas, Alabama and Georgia to obtain. The reality is travelling for treatment is not an option for many of our citizens currently, but can be in the future with the cancer center expansion at UMC. Additional capacity at the UMC, a state-owned facility, would leverage this tremendous investment by allowing UMC to expand access to its services to a larger group of potential patients. Groundbreaking cancer research is only relevant if it leads to expanded, improved care for our residents and this would allow UMC to provide just that.
