City of Bettendorf
Middle Road is the largest arterial street in the City of Bettendorf that connects Interstate 74 on the west and Interstate 80 on the north. In total, Middle Road extends approximately 5.7 miles. Of that 5.7 miles, 4.1 miles consist of a 4-lane cross section, while the remaining 1.6 miles are a 2-lane rural cross section. The rural 2-lane cross section can be found in the northeast corridor of the City, heading to Interstate 80. This area is the growth center for the City, and traffic volumes along this corridor reflect that. Volumes have increased over 30 percent since 2014, with increases of almost 100 percent seen just north of this project. The development of the TBK Bank Sports Complex in 2017 transformed the north end of Middle Road, and has spurred the need for reconstruction and widening of this portion. Additionally, Bettendorf has experienced nearly an 18 percent increase in population over the past 10 years. To continue to support that growth and provide reliable, efficient transportation, the City of Bettendorf is requesting funds to prepare preliminary engineering for the reconstruction of Middle Road from just south of Crow Creek Road to just south of Forest Grove Drive.
