Project Description

The proposed expansion of the Dr. William Toth Memorial Health Center (Toth Health Center) would ensure greater access to quality health services for Edison\u2019s diverse community and especially help meet the growing needs of its underserved seniors. Health programming and services directed towards senior populations is essential as the most recent American Community estimated almost 15 percent of Edison\u2019s residents are over the age of 65. Edison is also considered an overburdened community by the State of New Jersey with at least 35% of the households qualifying as low-income, 40% of its residents identifying as minority, and 40% of the households having limited English proficiency: https://www.nj.gov/dep/ej/communities.html. This important distinction demonstrates the likelihood that residents in the community likely faced, or continue to face, environmental and public health stressors that caused significant negative impacts on their quality of life.\nThe Township\u2019s Health Department currently operates out of the Toth Center, where it conducts vaccination outreach, health screenings, tracking of communicable diseases, and other activities to improve health outcomes for its residents.
