Project Description

While there was a CDC provided through the CPF process in FY22, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base continues to have an enduring need for childcare facilities to meet a growing base population and to deal with aging base infrastructure. Funding for this project will build a childcare / school age care center facility inside the base perimeter and replace an aging and high maintenance facility outside the fence line. This request is separate and additional from the childcare development center that was appropriated in the FY22 cycle. This facility will include a school age care center, a significantly different population than is covered by the Child Development Center funded in FY22.\n\nThe proposed center would cover approximately 41,000 Square Feet, with capacity for approximately 300 children, and would include force protection features, classroom and administrative areas, food preparation, outdoor sheltered play areas, and parking and pick-up/drop off areas. The proposed center will be designed as permanent construction in accordance with applicable Department of Defense Unified Facilities Criteria and would meet all Air Force and other applicable design and construction standards for Child Development Centers, including Antiterrorism/Force Protection standards, Americans with Disabilities Act standards, and fire code requirements.\n\nPresently, these programs are housed in a former 62- year-old school building located outside the base perimeter. The facility is in poor condition, which is impacting the provision of childcare. Issues with deteriorating structural systems, failing utilities, and insect and vermin infestation detract from the provision of quality care and results in extensive service calls. This new facility will enable all children to receive Child Development Center/School Age Care.
