The construction of the Terminal Expansion Phase II Gates Expansion project is expected to cost more than $500 million. The requested funding will be used toward the construction of the project and the components that address airport safety, security and capacity. The Terminal Expansion Phase II Gates Expansion project is a good use of taxpayer funds as it will add more capacity to the airport, allow for more flight activity, more competition, new entrants, and sustainable airline pricing. Additionally, the State of Florida determined that for every dollar invested in aviation development projects, the State realized a $1.72 return on investment. RSW has experienced significant growth over the past 2 years and that is expected to continue based on aviation demand forecasts
