Project Description

This project has multiple parts that include widening 1450 South River Road at the Virgin River, realigning 1450 South 3000 East to 1580 South (3650 South \u2013 Washington City), and extending 1450 South further west towards I-15 including a bridge over the Virgin River. Funds will be used to design and construct PHASE I - Phase I: 1450 South Extension; Roadway from River Road to Virgin River Bridge\n\nThis project is a good use of taxpayer dollars because this project will alleviate traffic congestion by improving east-west vehicle flow from the Southern Parkway to the east side of 1-15 towards Santa Clara and Ivins. This will include repairs to the bridge crossing over the Virgin River including enhancing pedestrian access for those using the Virgin River Trail System. The city of St. George is one of the fastest growing cities in the nation and is the 7th largest city in Utah. In addition, the City is home to millions of visitors frequenting nearby national treasures like Zions National Park and other outdoor recreation attractions and many business conventions. The transportation infrastructure needs to be improved and updated to manage this growth and increased traffic congestion that has now become the new normal. Traffic flow has been impeded by the narrow roadway, and pedestrian crossings near the Virgin River trail system need to be enhance for safety as more people use the trail.
