Project Description

Funds will be used for construction costs associated with rehabilitating 1220 Maple View Place, SE into two family-size affordable units. The L\u2019Enfant Trust\u2019s Historic Properties Redevelopment Program and the rehabilitation of 1220 Maple View Place, SE in the Anacostia Historic District will be fundamental in helping low to moderate-income families acquire quality housing, building assets for families through homeownership, revitalizing distressed neighborhoods, and preserving racial and ethnic diversity in Southeast, DC. The unique heritage of Anacostia, DC\u2019s original suburb, and the chosen community of Frederick Douglass, is endangered by decades-long disinvestment and the tensions between the need for economic investment and the risk of displacing long-time residents. The rehabilitation of 1220 Maple View Place, SE will support community revitalization, neighborhood reinvestment, and equitable development in Anacostia. The rehabilitation of historic 1220 Maple View Place, SE, a long vacant, deteriorated, two-family flat, is not economically feasible for a homeowner or a for-profit developer because the rehabilitation costs far exceed fair market value. Community Project Funding support would not only allow the historic property to be fully rehabilitated and create necessary affordable homeownership opportunities, but also contribute to future projects in Anacostia as part of the L\u2019Enfant Trust\u2019s Historic Properties Redevelopment Program.
