Project Description

Warren Village request funds to support construction costs to provide 74 apartment units of affordable housing to single-parent families in southwest Denver. In November 2021, Warren Village announced its plans to expand program services on newly acquired land awarded through a highly competitive process managed by the Denver Housing Authority (DHA) and the City and County of Denver, funded by the DHA Delivers for Denver Bond Program. Once constructed, the new campus at 1394 W. Alameda Ave. and 1373 W. Nevada Pl., will be the state\u2019s first-ever intentional supportive housing for single-parent families. The organization will leverage its 47-year history of providing safe and affordable housing, parent services and advocacy, and early education/childcare for parents and children. The campus will offer 74 affordable apartment homes, a high-quality early learning center, playgrounds, and outdoor gathering spaces that will allow for connectivity to existing neighbors, including the Women\u2019s Bean Project, with the goal of fostering both opportunity and community. As the cost of living in Denver continues to increase, thousands of hard-working families, the majority of whom are people of color, are being forced to move farther away from employment and education opportunities, dissolving historically diverse communities. Single parents are even more likely to be adversely impacted\u2014many are working multiple jobs at minimum wage, and still cannot stay afloat. Most of them are women, and through no fault of their own, are sinking into an intractable cycle of poverty that will trap their children as well, without the community\u2019s help.
