Project Description

The Tiverton Public Safety Communications Project would purchase a state-of-the-art three-position emergency dispatch console and provide essential 800MHz communication equipment to police officers and all police vehicles in the Town. The Tiverton Police and Fire Department\u2019s communications network and infrastructure are coming to the end of their service lives and must be replaced. New equipment would allow the Tiverton Departments to utilize the Rhode Island Statewide Communications Network, which operates on 800 MHZ, while also enabling communications on 400 MHZ, which is necessary for the Fire Department to uphold it mutual aid agreements with communities in the State of Massachusetts. Obtaining state-of-the-art equipment for the frontline public safety personnel, would allow Tiverton to shift some of its resources to the Department of Public Works, which does not have an integrated communications system and must rely on cell phone communication. The plan will result in an interoperable radio communication network for town-wide public safety use, which is of particular importance during certain emergencies, including severe weather events.\r\n
