Project Description

The Keokuk County, Iowa Route V5G Pavement improvement Project connects the communities of Sigourney and Ollie. This stretch of road is critical to Keokuk County as it is one of only four County routes with crossings over the South Skunk River. This access is imperative for a variety of interests including but not limited to emergency medical response, fire response, law enforcement, school bus routes, the movement of agricultural commodities, etc. The improvements planned will begin at State Route 149 and continue southeasterly to approximately 280th Street. Steps have been taken over the years to prepare for this project as it, like most all other Secondary Road projects in Iowa, is long overdue but adequate funding is simply not available to meet the demand. This preparatory work has included replacing all of the drainage structures along the route, restoring and improving ditches for positive drainage and removing obstructions within the clear zone to improve safety. In 2014 available resources at that time were utilized to replace the pavement from the end of the proposed project at 280th Street southeasterly to 305th Street as it had deteriorated to the point where the road was nearly impassable. Unfortunately, funds were not available to complete other necessary improvements to this route at that time.
