Middle Rio Grande Development Council
The project will allow our region to upgrade of our P25 Radio System. The upgrade will drastically improve the reliability and modernize the much-needed radio trunking infrastructure. This upgrade will maintain and extend the life the system and consists of the following:\n\u2022 Upgrade 13 Microwave links with licensed product\n\u2022 Civil Work to include five new Towers and two new buildings\n\u2022 Civil Work to upgrade existing sites\n\u2022 Replace the transmit and receive antenna system\nThe Regional Trunking Radio System is used daily by all every entity listed above. The system footprint is over 32,000 square miles of radio coverage, with 15,000 square miles covering the MRGDC geographic region. The contributions to the Border Security efforts are substantial. The system covers 198 linear miles of the Rio Grande River along the MRGDC boundary and a total of 408 linear miles of total interoperable radio coverage along the Rio Grande River utilizing tower connectivity into the Lower Rio Grande Valley area of the Texas. Because of its switching capability, the RTRS also can link into other major trunk radio systems in Texas and in many cases into many other states as well.
