Regional Transportation District (RTD)
RTD is requesting $7 million to replace existing rail, switches, highblocks, concrete flatwork, and items associated with the rail alignment along the Central Corridor, which operates through the Downtown Denver area. RTD will provide a 20% local match ($2.1 million) to this request. RTD opened its first light rail line, the Central Corridor, in 1994. This corridor is nearly 30 years old, and has many state of good repair needs. The Central Corridor is the backbone of RTD's light rail operations and, operating in a large urbanized area, is used by over 30,000 people each weekday. Users of RTD's light rail system include people from all over Metro Denver, the State of Colorado, and the United States. The rail infrastructure has deteriorated over the past 27 years and is in need of replacement to continue safe, reliable operation of RTD\u2019s light rail network. Updating the rail in Downtown Denver is a priority for the agency.
