: This project will provide increased access to health care services for a diverse and underserved area. The Houston-Galveston Area Council reported demographics for this general area (block groups for <1 mile radius) include: for Race (in 2020), Black - 75.1%, Hispanic - 10.6%, White - 9.5% & Other - 4.9%; for Income (in 2020), Above $100K - 17.4%, $50K to $100K - 20.4%, $25K to $50K - 22.5% & Below $25K - 39.8%; and for Poverty of Households (in 2020), Above Poverty - 67.4%%, & Below Poverty - 32.6%. A survey of the comprehensive needs of this area found that only 68.38% of Third Ward residents have some form of health insurance. In addition, only 47.59% did not have a personal doctor as their primary health care provider. Furthermore, 16.12% cited not finding a doctor or clinic that is open in the evening or on weekends as a barrier to medical care.
