Project Description

Upper Macungie Township is home to approximately 26,000 residents and nearly 1,000 businesses, from small mom-and-pop shops to some of the largest commercial and industrial corporations in the world, including Air Products. The Township is one of the fastest growing municipalities in all of Pennsylvania, and has a wonderful mix of rural, residential, commercial, and industrial properties. As it has grown, Upper Macungie Township has recognized the importance of providing recreational opportunities for those who live and work within the Township. It maintains over 498 acres of park land at eleven locations throughout the Township. These parks range in size from a two-acre neighborhood playground to over 165 acres at Grange Park and offer easy access from all their neighborhoods. While the Township does provide ample outdoor spaces, the need for an indoor facility has become abundantly clear as was demonstrated through a community survey in which 82% of the 1,500 households that responded indicated they would use an indoor community center. In addition, leaders from many of the largest companies that call Upper Macungie home have voiced their support of such a facility, which, given its broad range of uses and the number of residents and those working nearby who would use it, would be a wonderful complement to Township\u2019s recreation program. The Community Project Funding Program will help provide the necessary resources to accomplish this goal.
