In 2021, Future Plans, in partnership with SkillUp, launched a marketing campaign to attract Ohio citizens living in a 19-county area of Appalachia, to engage in the GRIT Project (www.GRITOHIO.org), which supports a proven career planning process that supports individuals in seeking better work by engaging in assessments, coaching, planning and, as needed, training activities that allow them to compete for in-demand local as well as national or global remote jobs. Our initial, limited campaign focused on scaling the GRIT project from 5 to 19 counties has exceeded our expectations in engaging adult job seekers in the 19 designated counties and beyond. Based on this success, and the demand to participate, this project will help expand participation in the GRIT Project to more Ohioans in the Eastern and Southeastern part of the state, especially those who live in rural areas and bordering communities of the original GRIT Project. The funding will also support new workforce development programs that focus on targeted remote work opportunities, that can be accessed across the region. This funding being requested is to act as a bridge to include those counties and citizens who are ready now to engage in workforce development so that we do not lose momentum in helping them and can respond immediately to the fact that they are ready to go.
