Project Description

The Village of Cuba is a Medically Underserved Area and Health Professional Shortage Area. Presbyterian Medical Services (PMS) has been providing primary healthcare needs in Cuba and for the Navajo people for over 50 years. \nHowever, PMS has been unable to maintain an appropriate level of staffing to provide the needed health care services in this community. Feedback from providers indicates one of the primary reasons for provider dissatisfaction is the lack of housing. This has caused a decrease in access to critical medical, dental, and behavioral health services to this already underserved area.\nBy creating permanent, dedicated housing and a wellness center, PMS is recommitting to providing the best possible care to the community and securing long-term providers for continual, patient-centered care and allowing PMS to provide an additional 4000 medical and dental visits to our communities.\n$1,635,000\n$500,000 - Site Work (Building Pad, Septic, Water, Parking, Road, Power Access)\n$1,000,000 - Buildings (4 units, $3,800 sq.feet, $263/ft)\n$135,000 - Wellness Center Renovation\n\nAdditional info from PMS below:\nPlease explain what the process will be for constructing the medical center housing: PMS is currently working with an architect on design for the housing. If the funding is secured, PMS will issue an RFP for construction. The RFP will include any and all requirements as set forth by HUD. Once a bid is accepted, the project will be managed in-house by PMS\u2019s Legal Counsel and Director of General Services. This is similar to the process PMS is currently undertaking with HRSA funding for clinic expansion in Carlsbad.\nWill PMS own the medical center housing? Yes. PMS currently owns the land and will own the housing on the land.\nWill residents pay rent at the medical center housing? PMS has not made this determination, yet. At a minimum, the housing will be subsidized. \nIf HUD required that the housing be provided at no cost, would PMS accept those terms? Yes
