Prince William County Government
The project consists of designing and constructing an elevated pedestrian bridge across a busy six-lane section of US Route 1 to connect the planned North Woodbridge Town Center to High-Capacity Transit at the Woodbridge VRE Station. The project is located on a key regional corridor, on US Route 1, which is corridor of regional and statewide significance and there has been significant investment in widening and other operational improvements on the corridor to increase throughput. While this is critical to regional mobility, the six-lane roadway prioritizes motorized travel and creates a barrier between the east and west sides of the North Woodbridge Regional Activity center that hinders the land use and economic development goal of creating a cohesive and safe walkable community. The project will connect the subareas of the North Woodbridge Regional Activity Center (MPO designated) and Small Area Plan and provide an active transit connection to rail and bus transit at the Woodbridge VRE Station to further the local goal of establishing a connected multimodal network.
