Capital Region Airport Commission
The FAA has recognized the need for, and the public benefits of, having Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting Stations at commercial service airports by requiring them its 14 C.F.R. Part 139 regulations and making them eligible for FAA AIP grant funding, as set forth in Appendix O of its FAA AIP Handbook, Order 5100.38D. \n\nAs noted above, the Richmond International Airport\u2019s current Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) Station was built in 1980 and is more than 40 years old. Construction of a new ARFF Station at a safer location will benefit the public by providing a more cost-effective, more operationally efficient, and safer facility for first responders, who assist the public during emergencies.
