Project Description

This project will drastically improve the mobility and connectivity of our export/import commercial traffic and will incentivize more commercial traffic to use the Port of Eagle Pass as their connection HUB along United States/Mexico. This project will significantly increase commercial traffic volume and generate more industrial and transportation jobs in the area. Increase in our export/import capacity and demand will not only be beneficial to the 23rd Congressional District but to Texas and the US as the Port of Eagle Pass becomes a premier export/import HUB for trade amongst US and Mexico. Improved mobility for non-commercial traffic will also be beneficial in attracting tourism from our neighboring Mexico cities in the region helping stimulate our local economy. The Port of Eagle Pass is currently one of the safest ports along the US/Mexico border and completing the proposed improvements will certainly catapult our Port to premier status. \nLastly, this project will benefit the Kickapoo Traditional Tribe of Texas (KTTT), the only federally recognized Native Tribe in the 23rd Congressional District. The Eagle Pass International Bridge plays a critical role in the KTTT preserving their Native heritage as they practice their tribal ceremonies in Muzquiz, Coahuila (MX). The KTTT have dual citizenship and commute regularly from their sovereign land in Eagle Pass, Texas to their sovereign land in Mexico. The KTTT provides its members housing at both reservations allowing them to reside at either location at any given time. This project will improve their mobility and expedite their crossing time as they utilize the Port of Eagle Pass.
