The proposed renovation of the Biopolymers Research Building (BPRB) is essential to the recruitment and retention of top talent at the trainee and faculty level to the University of Utah. The BPRB is emerging as a hub for neuroscience research, currently housing researchers from multiple departments across campus. The proposed remodeling outdated space in BPRB will enable new young talent to be recruited and trained, and will transform the infrastructure needed to support state of the art neuroscience research, ranging from facilities for imaging, recording brain activity and studying behavior to chemical biology laboratories that can pioneer treatments for debilitating neurological diseases. This renovation will provide a scientific hub for trainees to prepare them to for positions in the life science industries.\n\nThis project is a good use of taxpayer dollars- This project will invest in the advancement of necessary infrastructure to support growth and emerging scientific advancements. The Biopolymers Research Building (BPRB) is emerging as a hub for neuroscience research on the University of Utah campus, currently housing researchers from Neurobiology, Biochemistry, Neurology, Psychiatry, Pediatrics, Otolaryngology, and Pharmacy. But the infrastructure is lacking to fully realize the potential to create a dynamic, interdisciplinary research hub focused on tackling the most challenging diseases of the brain. This project will support unparalleled opportunities for tackling a range of devastating conditions impacting the brain, related to brain aging, neurodegeneration, and other brain disorders. Such research provides a world wide impact.
