Project Description

With the growing population nearly doubling in the past two decades, the City has experienced a need for community public spaces that support inclusive programming that reaches children, youth, and adults of all ages, capacities, and abilities. Currently, the City has one gymnasium and one community room to serve all 80,000 residents. The proposed project would respond to the needs of the community, while promoting an environment that cultivates healthy, safe, accessible and inclusive programming opportunities. To further support the local economy, this project would create new employment opportunities for local artists and instructors to create new programming that support the increased demand of the community. Additionally, the project would allow for continued collaborative opportunities with our local partners to provide needed resources to the community, inclusive of mental health, homelessness, health-related resources, and more. The development of public-serving community amenities is directly correlated with sense of place, and local and regional regard for visiting and residing in a given area. The effects of such an improvement are substantial and widespread. An enhanced sense of place has a positive effect on population growth, as well as general public safety, the level of trust between the community and local jurisdiction, and social activity and interaction in a healthy environment. To the latter of these benefits, the venue, together with the programming that will be offered, can also assist those experiencing mental illness, especially if derived from general isolation. Furthermore, these factors also have a general and significant impact on the local economy, including increased property values, lower crime rates, and higher educational and professional attainment.
