Project Description

The project would make infrastructure investments to improve the accessibility of four community health centers in Milwaukee that together serve over 80,000 low-income people each year along with investments to address the safety and well-being of visitors to the facilities. \nThis project includes infrastructure that promotes essential accessibility to people of differing abilities to safely and independently navigate the Health Center buildings and parking areas. Specifically, each of the Health Centers is requesting upgrades to their existing elevators, a key patient accessibility mechanism. \n\nThe joint proposal also focuses on patient safety and wellness. Together, the CHCs are dedicated to ensuring that both patients and providers experience safety and wellness while on-site. For example, the proposals include equipment updates to mitigate the impacts of severe weather events and power outages that can disrupt the provision of health services. Parking lot expansions and improvements are also included. The proposal would also support the purchase of equipment to improve breast cancer screening and mammography interpretation. Supplies requested, such as computers and heads for new staff, will also enable further expansion of telehealth services, which are critical to expanding patient access to care regardless of the patient\u2019s location. Several items are also designed to enhance the provider experience, both as a recruitment and retention strategy. \n\nAdditionally, these projects contribute to the local economy; research shows that for every $1 invested in Community Health Centers returns $7.66 into these under-resourced neighborhoods.
