Ke'alaokamaile Cultural Resource Center
Halau Kealaokamaile seeks to build a permanent home to perpetuate traditional Hawaiian education. One of the most important cultural legacies in Hawaii is creating a sense of place. How the Hawaiian people exist in the world, in their neighborhoods and with their ohana provides value and purpose and benefits the community. This project will provide a vital gathering place for the community to perpetuate Hawaiian arts and traditions and contribute to the health and well-being to the under-served Hawaiian community and generate a new generation of community leaders. The cultural resources center will consist of a research library, a commercial kitchen, a sustainable agriculture processing area, two dance floors and two classrooms. This first of its kind facility will create a permanent physical home for the community to learn, honor and embody the legacy of Hawaiian knowledge on the island of Maui. This community center will serve as a space for all residents of the community for dance, arts and cultural instruction.
