Project Description

The Expansion of Behavioral Health Clinics in Schools in Westchester County will provide funding for the first year start-up construction and service delivery costs associated with establishing three additional satellite behavioral health clinics in schools in high need, underserved areas in Westchester County, including New Rochelle, Yonkers and Mount Vernon. Montefiore Medical Center runs school-based clinics in other parts of New York state, and these funds will allow them to expand to these new school districts in NY-16. To address the mental health needs of school age children, Montefiore Medical Center will apply its proven, evidence-based model of comprehensive mental health treatment through the provision of individual, family, and group therapy; psychiatric assessments; medication management; teacher consultation; outreach; community referral; and crisis intervention. Providers will also work with families around access to concrete services such as housing, legal, health insurance, food/nutritional assistance, and other important community linkages. The program is important for the future of the residents of New York, so that children who develop mental health disorders are provided the necessary services so they can face challenges as they grow and transition to adulthood, resulting in a healthier community and more stable workforce contributing to the local economy.
