Project Description

The proposed projects are "green infrastructure" initiatives that will improve watershed quality in our region's streams and the Susquehanna River by reducing key pollutants (sediment and nutrients). The projects are estimated to provide a reduction of approximately 213,000 lbs of sediment per year, as well as reduce annual nutrient loads to local streams, the Susquehanna River, and ultimately the Chesapeake Bay. The pollutant reduction provided by these green projects directly benefits 31 municipalities who have regionalized under WVSA to achieve MS4 compliance as required by each of their individual NPDES PAG-13 permits. The implementation of these projects under a regionalized program is arguably the most cost effective approach for our taxpayers and municipalities to achieve MS4 permit compliance. This project also provides infrastructure upgrades to improve wastewater effluent quality that discharges to the Susquehanna River, as well as improved reliability of wastewater service for customers within the WVSA service area. This funding request to implement this project benefits all WVSA wastewater customers, which includes approximately 172,000 residents within 36 municipality service area.
