Project Description

Community Medical Wellness Centers, USA (CMWC) is a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC). One of the requirements of an FQHC is to provide access to services throughout the community to reduce the non-urgent use of Hospital Emergency Departments which is quality patient care, but it also saves money. According to a recent article from the New England Journal of Medicine, preventive care services yield $3.5 billion annually across the nation. In addition, CMWC understands that a community health center is an economic driver in the service area. Currently, CMWC employs more than 80 full-time employees which a generous salary and benefits package. As stated previously, CMWC is committed to hiring provider and support staff from within the community which means jobs and revenue for the 47th Congressional District. The proposed funds would increase that number by almost 20 percent. These would be permanent positions and by the end of the project period CMWC would be generating enough program income to sustain these positions. CMWC currently provides, and will use the requested funds to expand, the existing successful program where evidence based BH and SUD treatment services are offered in a comprehensive manner including evidence based harm reduction activities, 24 hour mobile crisis services, suicide prevention, all forms of recovery support including case management, outreach, peer recovery mentors, and transportation, ongoing and consistent screening for the presence of co-occurring BH and SUD disorders, an HIV and hepatitis prevention program, and medication assisted treatment (MAT) services. Any additional funds will be used to increase services and access to the residents of the 47th Congressional District.
