Project Description

Tooele City and other municipalities within the Tooele valley have provided water to residents since the mid-1850s. Currently, no entity in Tooele County is connected to a regional water district (such as the Jordan Valley Water Conservancy District or the Central Utah Water Project). Servicing water through locally drilled municipal wells has become increasingly difficult. \r\n\r\nTooele City is working with Tooele County, Grantsville, and the Stansbury Park Improvement District to connect municipal water systems and form a joint Water Service District. This would reduce risk of service failure in times of emergency incidents or drought. \r\n\r\nThis proposed project by Tooele City proposes to bring water 28 miles from a site in Rush Valley, UT where the City owns significant water rights. The proposed project would construct a water line (estimated $1M per mile), a water storage tank, rehabilitation of existing wells in Rush Valley, and construction of well-houses and booster stations. UDOT has positively indicated the possible use of State highway right of way, and Tooele City has reserved property for the location of a booster station. Total project costs are estimated to be $54 Million. Tooele City is prepared initiate mechanisms to cover a cost share as needed. Partial funding would allow key elements of the project to be completed (well rehab, storage tanks, or well houses).\r\n
