Project Description

Mote Marine Laboratory (Mote), a nonprofit, would use this funding to develop innovative approaches to restore seagrass areas in Florida. Specifically, Mote will use this funding to (1) purchase greenhouse equipment; (2) modify existing plumbing, electrical, indoor lab, and office space; (3) conduct seagrass genetics work; (4) conduct and monitor seagrass field plantings; and (5) further statewide partnerships with successful seagrass restoration nurseries and institutions. This will allow Mote to conduct genetics and grow-out research on Florida\u2019s native seagrasses (shoal grass, manatee grass, paddle grass, turtle grass, widgeon grass, and star grass) to find the most resilient strain for restoration efforts. This project is ready for implementation at the Mote Aquaculture Research Park in Sarasota, Florida with existing Florida Department of Agricultural and Consumer Services aquaculture facilities permits and complementary existing infrastructure.\r\n\r\nI certify that neither I nor my immediate family has any financial interest in this project.\r\n \r\n
