Project Description

This project represents important new community infrastructure in an often-overlooked area of the country and will serve as an epicenter for neighborhood revitalization. It will provide essential services to at-risk youth to improve outcomes in social determinants of health. Youth in under-served and under-resourced communities, particularly those of color, face statistically greater longstanding barriers to advancement including lack of educational support, generational poverty, limited access to quality healthcare and housing, and institutionalized racism. Already deeply problematic before COVID-19, with the further stress of an unprecedented pandemic, these issues have become crises. And their impact spreads from community to community, throughout the state, and across generations. The construction of a new Club facility would provide a safe, secure, and optimized space for local youth, many of whom are at the highest risk of academic failure, chronic anxiety, substance use, and potential involvement in the judicial system. This renovation would create a positive, productive, and welcoming place after school. Lastly, Boys & Girls Clubs are proven generative drivers that generate an average of $9.60 of local economic impact for every dollar invested.
