The Somerset Water Department received an administrative consent order from MassDEP Southeast Region due to a violation of the location running annual average (LRAA) for total trihalomethanes (TTHMs) at two sampling sites in the water distribution system. The violation occurred in 2018. The Somerset Water Department made several operational changes to lower TTHM concentrations and stay in compliance with the Disinfection Byproducts Rule, with some short-term success. However, a long-term solution will require additional infrastructure to keep Somerset Water Department in compliance and protect the health of their constituents.
