Project Description

Rockland Community College is the only public institution of higher education in Rockland County and one of two community colleges within NY-17. While we rely on state and county funding for the majority of our operating budget, our students are economically disadvantaged with one third of our student population receiving federal Pell funding.\n\nUnlike large research universities, most community colleges operate on razor-thin budgets as their major value proposition is to provide an open, affordable and accessible for any student with a high school degree or equivalency who wishes to attend. Rockland Community College\u2019s annual tuition is $5,212. Because RCC does not have the operating budget to undertake large scale capital projects such as this, we rely on our federal partners to advocate on our behalf.\n\nThe nation\u2019s nursing shortage is a problem that affects all taxpayers including those who reside within NY-17. By ensuring top quality training environments for those entering the nursing profession, the taxpayers of the district will be better taken care of by skilled healthcare professionals, further reducing the long-term federal costs absorbed by those same taxpayers. This complements state and federal efforts to address the nationwide nursing shortage, such as New York State\u2019s \u201cNurses for our Future\u201d scholarship program and US Department of Health and Human Services\u2019 \u201cNursing Education Loan Repayment Program.\u201d
