This projects supports Iowa's rural agriculture communities and advances innovation that could strengthen our national security and shore up the U.S. economy. The project will rehabilitate of approximately 24 miles of roads in dire conditions that service over 4,600 vehicles per day in Fayette and Clayton counties. These roads serve as primary school bus and emergency services transportation routes as well as access to business districts of developmentally \n\nThe materials used for this new type of pavement are highly recycled asphalt using soybean-based polymer technologies developed at Iowa State University. This material reduces the costs and environmental impacts associated with roadbuilding, saving nearly 50,000 barrels-of-oil equivalents for the 24 mile stretch of roadway. This bolsters our agricultural economy by using a domestic product, soy, while simultaneously reducing our dependence on foreign oil by eliminating the need for petroleum polymers.
