New Orleans Regional Transit Authority
Investments in public transportation are one of the most important investments governments can make on behalf of taxpayers. Public transportation and high-quality transit facilities yield four-fold economic gains in the community. They also improve community health, fuel efficiency, road congestion, and mobility. By leveraging the UPT, an underutilized publicly owned property for new RTA offices, tax dollars are being used to capitalize on previous taxpayer investments in the facility and allow the building to serve the new purpose of meeting today\u2019s transit needs. Building upgrades will increase resiliency and riders will feel safer from increased foot traffic and the presence of RTA law enforcement teams. RTA presence at the UPT also serves as a catalyst to transform the terminal into the multimodal transit center needed to connect Baton Rouge, the New Orleans Airport to downtown, and key housing and job nodes serving low-income riders traveling to and from the West Bank and New Orleans East.
