City of Tampa
According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, total U.S. electricity consumption in 2021 was about 3.93 trillion kWh and only about 20% of energy consumed was generated from the renewable energy source. It is one of the foundational objectives of the City\u2019s \u201cResilient Tampa\u201d roadmap to convert its reliance on traditional energy resource for its municipal operations to renewable energy resource. The City is committed to providing safe drinking water to our residents with renewable energy generated using our existing water infrastructure and this project will allow the City to be a responsible partner in advancing resilient and sustainable opportunities to address the nation\u2019s energy challenges.The project would be a valuable use of taxpayer funds because it provides for further work on hydroelectric power generation at the Hillsborough River Reservoir Dam and energy recovery at the Water Department\u2019s remote pump station. This project aligns with city and national goals to transition to renewable energy, thereby reducing city and community-wide greenhouse gas emissions. This funding would provide 50% of the estimated cost of the project.
