Shasta Regional Transportation Agency
This project is a valuable use of taxpayer funds as it will ensure the long-term reliability of I-5 and State Routes 299, 44, and 89. In addition to providing the everyday benefit of consistent travel time and speed during peak commute hours for decades to come, the Fix 5 Cascade Gateway Project will effectively mitigate the impacts of unavoidable closures on northbound I-5. Once exceptional, such closure events have become more frequent (18-23 times per year over the last 5 years) and longer in duration (often lasting several days) due to wildfires, extreme winter weather, and traffic collisions.
