Project Description

The purpose of this project is to rehabilitate an economically significant corridor in Orion Township which has gone without repair (other than pothole patching) since 2003. The project corridor is a 2.5 mile long, five-lane thoroughfare surrounding the GM Orion Assembly Plant. It includes Brown Road from Jamm Road to Giddings Road; Giddings Road from Brown Road to Silverbell Road; and Silverbell Road from Giddings Road to M-24. The project corridor improvements will include complete surface reconstruction, storm structure repairs, and the addition of a center left turn lane on Brown Road.\n\nIn addition to the major businesses located directly on the corridor, this corridor provides access to the industrial areas directly surrounding the corridor, and acts as a pass through for surrounding residents to access adjacent commercial developments. Improving access to these areas by improving the road condition will help improve the quality of life for residents, visitors and businesses in both Orion Township and Auburn Hills.\n\nThe Brown/Giddings/Silverbell Corridor is acknowledged by many as an economically significant corridor, and the reconstruction of the road is highly supported by the community, public agencies, elected officials, and private companies. With the recent announcement from GM to invest $4 billion and create more than 2,300 jobs, the need for this project\u2019s completion is ever more important.
