Town of Sharon
This project will ensure safe drinking water for 18,000 people, and help remove cancer-causing chemicals from the main producing wells in Town.\nThis project is a priority for the 4th Congressional district. The CDC has determined that exposure to high levels of PFAS may reduce antibody responses to vaccines, increase cholesterol levels, produce changes in liver enzymes, increase the risk of high blood pressure in pregnant women, cause small decreases in infant birth weights, and increase risk of kidney or testicular cancer. Given that the initial results at Town Well 4 were nearly 5 times the safety threshold of the Maximum Contaminant Level (MCL), the resulting public health issue for the Town\u2019s 18,000 residents should be considered extremely severe.
