This project will have an incredible impact across 28 counties across Eastern Iowa, including several in the First Congressional District, which I represent. This funding will allow vulnerable communities to have the information they need to prepare for and stay safe during floods, providing for the general welfare of thousands of Americans. As all current and future hydrologic information garnered by the Iowa Flood Center through these innovative technologies flows to NWS, this project will ultimately improve the federal government\u2019s own research, data mapping, and response capabilities. Lastly, this project is a valuable use of taxpayer funds because this critical investment will increase mitigation efforts for disaster-prone communities, preventing billions of dollars in potential damages sustained from flood events. Without such action, American taxpayers will continue to bear the burden of an unending cycle of flooding, damage, and repair.
